Kesselhaus Theater Ensemble: Frau im Wald

Following a long-standing tradition, this year as well, director and theater educator Simone Lüdi presents a new work at Friedlinger's Kesselhaus with eight current acting talents. On behalf of the cultural office, she has rehearsed with her ensemble for many months. The result of this intensive preparation phase will be performed over three evenings at the end of October. The play to be performed is "Frau im Wald" by Julia Haenni. It features Frau Meier, who in the morning goes through her to-do list in her head: she needs to buy bread rolls, find the rabbit that escaped, and go to the dentist. But the day turns out to be very different from what she expected. Her car is gone, and the rabbit lies dead in front of the window. Suddenly, Frau Meier's seemingly endless to-do list goes awry, mixing with memories, fears, and the voice on the radio telling stories of missing women. In front of a stage set made of piled-up chairs, the audience is confronted with a jumble of voices, thoughts, experiences, and fantasies. The protagonists follow traces from Frau Meier's apartment to the garden, to women at the tram stop, into the forest, presenting a polyphonic piece about mental load, where everyday life and emergency situations blend together. Questions arise: What is real? Who is actually speaking here? And: When does reality end, and the dream world begin? What seems like an individual problem for Frau Meier actually affects many in reality. Julia Haenni, the playwright, comments on the attempt to depict the individual within the many and the many within the individual: "The jumble of voices shows the overload and simultaneously represents the addition of various problems and opinions." The staging by the Kesselhaus ensemble combines this tension between individual overload and mental load as a collective problem, inviting the audience to ask what happens when Frau Meier is no longer perceived as an individual but as many Frau Meiers. Directed by Simone Lüdi (assistant: Laura Simonelli), the cast includes Anja Meyer, Alexandra Krimmer, Eva Winter, Claudia Palladino, Barbara Wellinger, Doris Leimeier, Timm Rosburg, and Liwia Ricken. Julia Haenni, born in 1988 in the Canton of Aargau, studied theater directing at the Zurich University of the Arts and theater studies and German studies in Bern and Berlin. Her work "Frau im Wald" premiered in 2018. Since 2022, Haenni has been working independently, leading workshops, and teaching at the theater department of the Zurich University of the Arts. Her works have received numerous awards, including the Bern Literature Prize in 2020 and the German Youth Theater Prize in 2024 for "Angst oder Hase."
