Description
The novel Huris falls under a law in Algeria that prohibits publications about the civil war. Kamel Daoud was therefore sentenced in absentia to three years of imprisonment without parole and a high fine.
About the novel: Algeria, 1990s, civil war, attack on a village. Islamists try to slit the throat of young Aube, but only her vocal cords are affected. She can only remain silent. Kamel Daoud, born in Algeria in 1970, worked as a journalist. After being threatened in Algeria for his critical articles, he went into exile in France in 2014 and dedicated himself to literature.
