PROGRAM Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, from 12 "Character Pieces for the New Piano" and «Forest Tales» op. 8 Johannes Brahms, from Waltzes op. 39 Franz Liszt Etudes and others «Forest Murmurs» In the Blue Grotto, as Fanny's and Josef's salon at Fürstenstrasse 22 in Munich was called, artists and friends of the Rheinberger couple met for tea. There was music and philosophy. In this salon, the new piano pieces by Rheinberger also sounded, which Jürg Hanselmann will play for the first time in their original versions at this concert. The 12 character pieces were Rheinberger's Christmas gift in 1864 to Fanny. They are full of nonverbal messages of a love that had to remain hidden during those Christmas days. Fanny was still married to Ludwig Hoffnass, who died of tuberculosis in 1865. Fanny and Josef married in April 1867 and moved into the apartment at Fürstenstrasse in Munich.
