The Jazz Orchestra of the University of Bern was founded in December 1995 as the "Uni Big Band." Under the direction of Wolfgang Pemberger, the orchestra has maintained a diverse repertoire for over twenty years — from classic swing and Frank Sinatra songs to Argentine rhythms with bandoneon and funk. The members of the orchestra are staff or students from various disciplines at the University of Bern, as well as professional musicians, united by their passion for jazz.

A special highlight is the collaboration with charismatic singer Pascal Dussex, who brings brilliance and expression to the orchestra’s Sinatra tributes.

Pascal Dussex was born in 1961 into a musical family, learned to sing early, and passionately performed songs by Mani Matter at family gatherings. After numerous jobs in various fields, he completed his jazz singing studies at the Swiss Jazz School Bern in 1992. He has sung in various genres including pop, rock, soul, and jazz (TrickBag, IGIM Bluesband, Hamidi/Dussex, etc.). Since 1998, he has toured Switzerland with his musical comedy trio Les trois Suisses, performing new programs regularly. Besides concerts with his jazz combo Dussex’ True Blue (which was featured in an open-air performance in the castle courtyard in 2019) and the large soul/funk band Dussex’ Soultrain, he also frequently appears as a guest singer on stage or in the studio with various projects.

Wolfgang Pemberger, born in 1960 in Carinthia/Austria, has been living in Switzerland both professionally and privately since 1986. He completed his trumpet studies at the Conservatory of Klagenfurt and the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, studying under Umberto Arlati and Bert Joris. Since 1996, he has been leading the Jazz Orchestra of the University of Bern and performing with various musical projects — from duos to big band ensembles. Wolfgang Pemberger has been a member of the Uptown Big Band since 1994, from the very beginning. He has also participated in several theater, musical, and CD productions. Over 35 years, he taught trumpet at the music schools in Köniz (and from there also in Schwarzenburg) and Worblental/Kiesental. He lives with his partner and two children, without a dog or cat, in Borisried.

The concert organized by the Schwarzenburg Castle Association will not take place in the castle for obvious reasons but in the auditorium of the Upper Secondary Center.
