Who owns the stage? The participatory dance piece is Janne Gregor's answer to this question. In „Ich kann's nicht lassen“, participation becomes a principle of design: the audience determines how the piece unfolds. Children from 6 years old and adults perform with four dancers on stage and explore the dance style Krump together. They engage in a choreographic game that Janne Gregor developed in collaboration with professional Krump dancers and 20 Berlin school classes. Krump originated as an Afro-diasporic dance culture on the streets of L. A. and is rooted in a rebellion against social inequality and discrimination. For many dancers, Krump remains a refuge and a substitute family to this day. The Krump community stands for community. It is about showing oneself and supporting each other. For Janne Gregor, this is an exciting but also sensitive environment for artistic work on the theme of participation and self-empowerment. „Ich kann's nicht lassen“ breaks down traditional hierarchies between audience and performers and makes choreography a lively, democratic process. Dance becomes a means of understanding, and each performance an unique experience that makes tangible why one simply cannot stop dancing.
