Double concert (break around 8:30 PM) 7:30 PM • Shuteen Erdenebaatar, piano / Nils Kugelmann, contra-alto clarinet Two outstanding voices of young European jazz – the Mongolian pianist and composer Shuteen Erdenebaatar and the German bassist and clarinetist Nils Kugelmann – invite you on an extraordinary musical journey with their new program UNDER THE SAME STARS.
What started as a personal encounter has become a deep musical dialogue between two souls, Shuteen's hypnotic and luminous piano playing meets the mysterious sound colors of Kugelmann's contra-alto clarinet – a rare instrument that becomes the radiant center here. Together, they create a sound world that combines jazz, classical music, and film music, in which their individual stories, cultures, and love for music intertwine in a unique way.
Both have established themselves in recent years as influential figures of a new generation. Shuteen Erdenebaatar, born in Mongolia, has been living in Germany since 2018. She has been awarded, among others, the German Jazz Prize and the highest cultural award of her homeland. Nils Kugelmann, an ACT artist and also multiple award-winning, is known for his work with his own trio as well as his distinctive style as a composer. 9:00 PM - Jacob Karlzon 4tet • Questar The Swedish jazz pianist and composer Jacob Karlzon is often compared to the Swedish legend Esbjörn Svensson. He is also a member of the Dominic Miller 4tet. Karlzon's playing style is characterized by technical brilliance, rhythmic and harmonic complexity, and a perfect sense of form. Since 2012, he has been a Steinway artist, an international recognition for outstanding achievements. QUESTAR is the next chapter of his musical journey; born out of the desire to explore new sounds and settings, QUESTAR combines deep grooves and flowing rhythms with cross-border Nordic soundscapes.
