Description

INA FORSMAN – After Dark Hour Tour Part II
The artist Ina Forsman, born in Finland and based in Berlin, presents her most personal and dynamic album to date: After Dark Hour. As one of the leading voices of the European roots scene, Ina has captivated her audience for over a decade with explosive live performances and powerful, honey-sweet vocals. With this new release, she takes listeners on an emotional and groovy journey of rediscovery and resilience.
Recorded in Helsinki with a team of Finnish musicians and produced by Michael Bleu and Ina, After Dark Hour is characterized by retro soul, funk, Motown-inspired grooves, and R&B. "Even before any of the songs were written, I knew I wanted Michael Bleau to produce the album," Ina explains. "Michael produced half of the songs on my last album, and this time I wanted to create a complete work with him. We share a very similar musical taste, so the production came together very intuitively. I told him I wanted to make a groovy soul album with a retro sound, and the songs had to work perfectly both on record and live on stage."
The energy of live performance was a driving force behind the album's creation. "I wanted songs that are fun to play live, songs that leave people sweaty and smiling after my shows," Ina explains. "I believe that was the most beautiful part of my inspiration."
The album reflects Ina's journey from a phase of personal and creative stagnation to renewed inspiration and joy. The title track, After Dark Hour, was the spark that reignited her creativity after over a year of writer's block. "I went through a time — what I call the post-pandemic blues. I couldn't motivate myself to write songs or even listen to music. And then one day I wrote the title song, and it was like magic. It was a relief to know that I still had it in me after a year without it. After Dark Hour represents the first moment you see the light behind the blinds you've been trying to close. It's the feeling that things are finally getting better."
Groove is the heartbeat of the album. "I thought about how often I could simply make a bad day better by playing groovy music and dancing alone in my pajamas at home. I did that a lot while writing this album; it was like therapy. I wanted to bring that energy into this album."
The album takes listeners through an eclectic mix of soul sounds, from seductive power ballads to James Brown-like funk explosions, tender sweet soul, and uptempo Motown grooves. The lush production includes cinematic strings, bold horns, and gospel-like background vocals that support Ina's distinctive singing. "I tend to write really challenging things to sing," she laughs. "But I trust that what comes out first is exactly how the song should sound."
Ina highlights After Dark Hour, Stubborn, and Four Seasons as her favorites. "The title track is my favorite song overall because it represents such deep hope. I can feel this feeling every time I hear it. Stubborn just has that vibe — I love the dark, sexy verses mixed with the chill, sweet chorus. And Four Seasons is my lyrical favorite; it's like a deep dive into my soul. Michael Bleu brought the music to life and even came up with the flute riff I initially hated but now love!"
Ina has been performing since she was 17 and dedicates her career to songwriting that combines classic soul with her unique voice and vision. With After Dark Hour, she delivers an album that invites listeners to dance through life's darkest moments. "I hope this album will be an uplifting soundtrack for people to dance, clean, or just be silly at home. Play it on your worst days, dance, and feel a little better. And if it encourages people to come to a show and sing along," she concludes.
