Description
Florence Henri was a true globetrotter of the modern era. Born in New York in 1893, she lived with her family in Paris, Munich, Vienna, and finally on the Isle of Wight in England. As a teenager, she stayed with her aunt in Rome, where she studied piano at the music conservatory. During a stay in Berlin in the 1910s, she became acquainted with the avant-garde art scene and began studying painting. She later continued her studies at the Académie Moderne in Paris. In April 1927, she visited the Bauhaus in Dessau, where Lucia Moholy-Nagy encouraged her to take up photography. In early 1928, she gave up painting entirely and devoted herself to experimental photography in the years that followed. Curators: Roberto Lacarbonara and Giovanni Battista Martini Focus.
