Description
On stage, he portrayed the seductive Liliom, the mischievous Schwejk, the tragic Professor Unrat. In films, he played comic and serious roles; on television, he was for seventeen years the down-to-earth sympathetic 'Landarzt'. As colorful and versatile as the roles of actor Walter Plathe are, so straightforward and direct is the character behind them. Walter Plathe – a true Berliner, a guy with heart and a snout, a popular actor who sticks to his credo: "The mother of all is the theater!" When Walter Plathe talks about his life, it's as if he's reading from a screenplay. The genre? Comedy, crime, romance, drama, farce, and action movie all in one. With his dry wit and the temperament of a true Berliner, the actor talks about a life full of scene changes and contrasts. Plathe is a rogue, character, and heartbreaker, likable and warm, thoughtful and funny – not only when he slips into his roles but also as a person.
With much humor, Walter Plathe tells his life story and in the second part chats with actor/director and festival director Marten Sand. Audience members can jot down questions during the break, which Walter Plathe will answer ALL, because he "hasn't left anything out". Biography: Walter Plathe studied at the state drama school in Berlin and was engaged in 1971 at the State Theatre Schwerin and in 1976 at the Berlin Theatre of Friendship, now Theater at the Parkaue. His TV career began with "Märkische Chronik" and "Das Puppenheim in Pinnow". He was voted five times as TV favorite of the GDR. From 1992–2008, he played the title role 130 times in the ZDF series "Der Landarzt", as Dr. Ulrich Teschner. Since 2010, he has appeared in the series "Familie Dr. Kleist" as mayor. Despite his nationwide TV career, including appearances in "Tatort", "Der Alte", "Derrick", "Das Traumschiff", he remains loyal to the theater. With the Otto Reutter evening "Alles weg'n de' Leut'" he made his debut at the Theater am Kurfürstendamm in 1990. For his solo piece "Heute kein Hamlet", he received the Golden Curtain (audience award of the Berlin Theater Club) in 2001. Further awards followed, including the Berlin Theater Prize for performances in the productions 2005 "The Adventures of the Honest Soldier Schwejk", 2007 "An Imaginary Sick", 2009 "Zille" and 2014 "Zille and The Iron Gustav". In 2009, he received the Georg-Scheu-Preis for his role as "Volker von Alzey" at the Nibelungen Festival 2008. From 2015–2017, he played Götz von Berlichingen in the same-named play at the Burgfestspiele in Jagsthausen. The audience in Berlin last saw him at the Theater am Kurfürstendamm in "Jacobowsky and the Colonel" and in "Monsieur Pierre goes online", played Sir Toby Rülp in "What You Will" at the Seefestival Wustrau and at the Schlosspark Theater under the direction of Marten Sand.
