Description
The domestic chicken is today the most widely distributed bird worldwide. How did this happen? The exhibition traces the key stages of its history – from its wild ancestor in the forests of Southeast Asia, through domestication, to the astonishing diversity of chicken breeds we know today. It also highlights the fundamental changes brought about by industrial animal husbandry and invites visitors to view our relationship with pets from a new perspective. Using the special fate of the chicken as an example, the exhibition explores different aspects – evolution, science, biodiversity, human history – and offers the opportunity to see a long-time companion in a new light.
