Welcome dear mountain person. Nice that you have found your way to our Alpine School Glarnerland and thus to this beautiful mountain range. Here, between mountain and valley, there is so much to discover. Together with other mountain people and our mountain guides, we are happy to take you on an adventure journey. To prepare you optimally for the upcoming tour, you will find all important information here: Requirements
No prior experience in high-altitude tours is required. However, you need stamina for a nine-hour mountain hike and should be sure-footed and free from dizziness. Day 1: Ascent 700m, walking time without breaks approx. 2 hours
Together you take the electric bus of the Alpine School Glarnerland to the back of the Klöntal. Once there, you change to a taxi that takes you to Chäseren. Here begins the approximately two-hour ascent to the Glärnisch hut. Upon arrival at the hut, an impressive panorama awaits you, and you can end the evening comfortably at the Alpine School's regulars' table. Day 2: Ascent 1000m, descent 1700m, walking time without breaks approx. 8 hours.
Before the first daylight, you start towards today's summit goal. Initially on good trail tracks, then over ice and snow of the Glärnisch firn, you reach the Schwander ridge. In front of you towers the summit of the legendary Vrenelisgärtli. However, a small "test of courage" still awaits you. Over a short steep section equipped with iron rungs and a chain, you climb down well secured at the guide's rope to the connecting ridge. In easy climbing, you reach the longed-for summit. The deep view into the valley is breathtaking and compensates for the occasional drop of sweat. The descent leads you back to the hut on the same route. After a cool drink and a long rest, you start the descent towards Chäseren. There the Alpine taxi picks you up and takes you back to the Klöntal. Meeting point
We meet at 13:45 at the starting point of the Alpine School Glarnerland at Tödi Sport, Hauptstrasse 41 in Glarus. (5 minutes from the train station)
If you need or have reserved rental equipment, please be on site 30 minutes earlier for the equipment handover. Execution
We conduct the Hochtour Vrenelisgärtli with at least four and a maximum of six people. Arrival/parking
The Alpine School Glarnerland is only a 5-minute walk from the train station. Please observe the parking concept of the city of Glarus (https://www.glarus.ch/verwaltung/bau-und-versorgung/parkraumbewirtschaftung/langzeit-und-nachtparkieren.html/6346) and park only in the white zone. These parking spaces are centrally located. We recommend parking your car at Kasernenplatz or Zaunplatz and purchasing the parking ticket via the ParkingPay app. Accommodation
You stay overnight in the newly renovated Glärnisch hut (055 640 64 00) in a 6-bed room with duvets, washing facilities available. Additional costs
The costs for the Alpine taxi are not included in the price. (2x approx. 15 CHF) Please bring enough cash.
Non-SAC members pay a surcharge of 17 CHF/night. Catering
Bring snacks (e.g., dried fruit, chocolate, nuts, dried meat, cheese, whole grain bread, energy bars). Half board (dinner/breakfast) included. March tea is provided by the accommodation each morning and is included in the price. Important (guest login and program changes)
After booking, you will receive an email with all details about your tour at the latest 24 hours before the start of the Hochtour Vrenelisgärtli. You commit to checking the current information about your booked tour one day before the start time. If you have not received an email 24 hours before the start time, please contact us by phone at +41 55 640 36 14. Overnight stays in huts
Bring small-sized toiletries, possibly refreshing wipes (if absolutely necessary). For the overnight stay, bring an inner sleeping bag made of silk or cotton (for hygiene reasons). The huts usually have running cold water for body care. Hut slippers are available. The hut is not a trash bag; we carry our waste down again, including used wet wipes, etc. After the tour
You return the rental equipment together to Tödi Sport. There is coffee or a refreshing drink for all participants. This is also a good opportunity to exchange photos of the tour among each other. Alternatively, you can share these afterwards via a link provided by us with the other participants. Service overview
