Swiss premiere The planet Earth is plasticized and destroyed. Almost all life and existence have come to a halt. Now, at a final station between Earth and the universe, a few of the remaining Earthlings find themselves. From here, the final step towards a hopeful future is to be taken: the escape to Mars. A friendly algorithm is present as a host and introduces a quiet yet relentless competition: Who is worthy to become part of the new species on Mars? Those with capital, life experience, knowledge? The Earthlings diligently flee from their past towards the future. But gradually, their longings catch up with them precisely because they try to escape from them. And the algorithm also seems not to be the last protagonist in this piece. In hope of a future and finding meaning, Herz aus Polyester depicts a world where longing has long become a commodity. It also raises the question of what makes continued life actually worth living. What do we fight against if not ourselves? In her poetic science fiction, author Sarah Calörtscher challenges what supposedly holds us together: the narrative of a better tomorrow, amidst climate grief, technological promises, and present alienation. Herz aus Polyester was created in 2022/23 as part of the author support program DRAMENPROZESSOR at Theater Winkelwiese. Sarah Calörtscher received the renowned Kleist Förderpreis in 2024 for her play.
