Description
The lecture shows how different cultures perceive and interpret plants – from scientific perspectives to spiritual concepts in which plants are understood as sentient beings or expressions of nature spirits. Plant names, ancient myths, and traditional uses also provide insights into the cultural knowledge of past times. Plants are the foundation of our life: they provide the oxygen we breathe and the food that sustains us. However, what is considered edible or poisonous varies across cultures. Thus, plants regarded as dangerous – such as giant hogweed or kermes berry – can be used as food elsewhere if prepared correctly. Join us as we delve deeper into the diverse cultural customs and meanings of plants. Participating artist: Dr. Wolf-Dieter Storl
