Description

In 1994, her album "Oyster" laid like the dawn over the dark, foaming sea of the nineties. Grunge and alternative rock had always made higher waves, and HEATHER NOVA was the announcement of a new indie-folk promise, calming the storm with gentleness, cello, acoustic guitar, and hymnal songs. The swell in her songs goes back to Nova's childhood, when she lived with her hippie parents on a small island in Bermuda and spent most of the year on a sailing ship called "Moon." In the late eighties, she studied film in the USA and wrote songs for her classmates' projects. She moved to London, where she discovered the label Big Cat Records, which made indie stars out of Pavement or Blumfeld. "I put my hands where your wings should be," she sang in "Maybe An Angel," and even today, thirty years later, her voice has not lost its brightness. A nice preview of Nova's concert is provided by her current album "Live In Europe," on which she plays through her swaying repertoire between ebb and flow, accompanied by cellist Midori Jaeger.
