Description
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Martin Zimmermann have been significantly influencing the contemporary circus, dance, and theater world for over 25 years. In their first joint creation, they explore with much humor and full physical commitment the transience, fading, and their own artistic mortality. "Has Been" combines Zimmermann's Swiss Dadaism with Cherkaoui's Belgian Surrealism: The movement patterns are quirky, the emotions oversized, and the laws of nature are turned upside down!
Time shows no mercy. On stage, it takes a toll on the scenery and bodies, makes facades brittle, and shakes even the most protected self-image. Desperately, the characters resist. They polish surfaces and patch cracks, caught in tragicomic frenzy. But they cannot escape the inevitable any more than the questions that increasingly arise: How to deal with aging? How to remain relevant? And what happens when the final curtain falls?
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui embodies the aging diva, the matriarch, the showgirl, the shaman. Martin Zimmermann, on the other hand, is the servant, the caretaker, perhaps her last fan, death, her reflection. While the diva does her best to ignore their mutual decay, the servant pretends a perfect world to her ...
