Description

Harald Lesch and the Four Seasons in Climate Change – What do eight classical musicians from the Merlin Ensemble Vienna under the direction of Martin Walch do with the famous astrophysicist Harald Lesch? A journey through space and time. The "Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi, created 300 years ago in Venice, provide us with a yearly pass and an environmental ticket between Earth and orbit with minimal CO2 footprint. The spring thunderstorm, the oppressive heat of summer, the hunt in autumn, or the thin ice in winter – the images that Vivaldi musically depicts evoke childhood memories in our minds, associative and seemingly unchangeable ideas of the seasons, up to the present day. Harald Lesch, professor of physics, guides us as an expert and improviser with his knowledge and eloquence through the intertwined paths of natural forces from Vivaldi's program music into our present. Lesch, Vivaldi, and the Merlin Ensemble Vienna take us on a musical and scientific journey through time, starting with the formation of the Earth and its seasons to the current climate change. At the end, Harald Lesch views the dramatic changes of Earth and our climate from orbit – to the apocalypse? Current daily politics are also not spared. Program:
