«We still need to learn the language of clouds», states Hans Jörg Rheinberger in his new collection of poems consisting of three cycles.
The language of clouds consists of three cycles: in the poem cycle Dorfgedanken, the author repeatedly reminisces about his youth spent in Vaduz. For example, one of the poems is about «Ginggüfi». «In the village», it says, «we experience the collective as comprehensibility». These poems repeatedly deal with «touching the unpredictable». This also includes the soul holes in the walls of old houses on Triesnerberg. In the cycle Botanical Diary, Hans Jörg Rheinberger writes – with lyrical dowsing rod – along the borders of knowledge: about leaves, bark, the parliament of plants, or botanical luminaries like Peeter von Coudenberghe, Manuel Sweet, and Charles d l´Ecluse. In the poem «Botany on the Ship», the author travels with the scholar Adelbert von Chamisso around Cape Horn, then along the Chilean coast up to the Chukchi Sea, and from there to the atolls of the Pacific. In the third cycle Auf. Bruch. Ruderales, it is among other things about the edges to which we must turn because worlds meet there and surprises come to light. «The longer we move / at the edges / the more they expand / into worlds of the unpredictable.» Hans Jörg Rheinberger, born in 1946, studied philosophy in Tübingen and Berlin as well as biology in Berlin. As a molecular biologist and science historian, he was director of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin from 1997 to 2014. He has received numerous awards and works as a translator and author.
