Guided excursion Margunet

Description

The hike leads through typical mountain pine forests to Alp Stabelchod - one of the world's best-researched pastures. After a somewhat steeper zig-zag section, we catch sight of the rock cave where bearded vultures were released from 1991 to 2007. Between edelweiss and gentian, we climb up to the stunning Margunet viewpoint. We stop there for lunch and may spot Alpine choughs or, with a bit of luck, chamois, deer or bearded vultures.

On the descent into the Val dal Botsch, we experience the transition from the alpine meadows to the mountain pine forest. Debris flows bear witness to the erosive force that characterizes this landscape.

Meeting point: 8.40 am at the P8/Stabelchod parking lot (Postbus stop on the Ofenpass line). The arrival of your post bus from Val Müstair at 8:52 will be awaited if you make a note of this when you register.

Car: to parking lot P8, limited number of parking spaces

Duration: 6-7 hours including lunch break
Difference in altitude: 500 m ascent and descent, hiking distance 7 km
