Great Swing Night – Lace up your swing night shoes, turn up your heart – Let’s swing! A night full of rhythm, sparkle, and dance. A night dedicated entirely to swing: Ettlingen Castle and the adjacent Schlossgartenhalle transform into a nostalgic experience world of the 1920s on this evening. Inspired by the concept of the Castle Culture Night, visitors can expect an evening full of music, dance, show, and entertainment at various venues the castle has to offer. As with the Castle Culture Night, visitors have the opportunity to create their personal program from a variety of cultural highlights including music, shows, dance, and more, immersing themselves in the world of swing. You are welcome to stroll, discover, listen, and of course dance. The Great Castle Swing Night combines the special atmosphere of the castle with the energy of the lively swing scene and invites you on a journey through time. First highlights of the program DAVID HERMLIN WITH QUINTET David Hermlin represents a young generation that combines the elegance and energy of swing with impressive virtuosity. The drummer, singer, tap dancer, bandleader, and arranger is deeply rooted in the tradition of jazz and simultaneously develops it further with his own musical signature. As the son of swing pioneer Andrej Hermlin, he grew up with the music of the great swing era and today is one of the outstanding representatives of this genre. After a successful edition of the Swing Night 2025, the charismatic multi-talent from Berlin now returns to Ettlingen for this special edition to delight his fans once again. With a quintet, he presents a program full of rhythm, precision, and joy of playing – a tribute to classic swing and at the same time a lively look at the timeless fascination. THE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN DAFFKES The Daffkes take you back to Berlin of the 1920s with songs and chansons by Friedrich Hollaender and his companions. With a sharp pen, Hollaender practiced subtle social criticism and masterfully captured the light and shadow sides of being human. The name Daffke – from Yiddish and in Berlin dialect meaning something done out of defiance, fun, or stubbornness – fits wonderfully with the chansons of this time. The Daffkes bring these songs back to life and tell of great and small destinies, wishes and dreams, longing and stubbornness. Four voices and a piano – sometimes loud, sometimes soft, always with passion – bring the spirit of this special time to the stage. SASCHA KOMMER The baroque Asam Hall provides the atmospheric setting for Sascha Kommer's solo program at the Steinway grand piano. With virtuosic piano playing, singing, and fine humor, he bridges to the golden era of swing. An intimate concert experience that revives the charm of bygone times and at the same time forms the musical transition to the subsequent performance of the quintet around David Hermlin in the Schlossgartenhalle, in which Sascha Kommer also appears as a pianist on stage. DANCE COURSE As usual at the Ettlingen Swing Night, visitors also have the opportunity at this edition to attend a free introductory dance course where simple dance steps can be learned. This way, you are well prepared for the evening. The times will be announced later.
