Description
Deception leads to betrayal and devastation as Siegfried is tricked into betraying Brünnhilde. When she learns of her beloved's innocence, Brünnhilde finally returns the ring to the Rhine maidens. Then she commands that Valhalla be consumed by flames. For Wagner's epic saga's long-awaited finale, director Barrie Kosky places the lush apocalyptic drama in today's world full of dreamlike turbulence. Antonio Pappano, honorary conductor of the Royal Opera, returns and dedicates himself to the passionate, transcendent score – including Siegfried's funeral march and Brünnhilde's electrifying sacrifice scene. The brilliant ensemble is led by Elisabet Strid, Andreas Schager, and Mika Kares, who, with the full power of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and the Royal Opera Chorus, bring this opera to its devastating conclusion.
