Description

The "New Land" is unfinished and often still unexplored. But as soon as the glaciers release these untouched areas, they become the focus of various interests: Hydropower, tourism and alpine farming are encroaching on the areas and politicians are curtailing opportunities to protect them. Mary Leibundgut, a geographer and botanist, has been professionally involved with glacier forefields since 1995 and is committed to their preservation and protection. With her presentation, she gives an impression of these unique landscapes, which are often of great beauty, and explains why they are of high ecological value with their diversity of different habitats and their great dynamism. This is an event in the Culture Meets Science series.
