Lichens - a sophisticated interplay

Description

They are trumpet-shaped or crust over stones and trees, some can be eaten, some protect themselves very cleverly from predators. Lichens grow incredibly slowly, show us whether the air is clean or where birds like to rest.
On a hike for young and old through the magical Aletsch forest, we dive into the fascinating world of lichens. They have names like map lichen or reindeer lichen - their diversity is huge. Along the way, we learn how they defy the harshest living conditions and why they are nevertheless subject to a strong decline. Together we follow the trail of this sophisticated interplay of fungus and algae.

General Information

The event takes place at the Pro Natura Center Aletsch in Riederalp. Under the guidance of a biologist, participants explore the fascinating world of lichens and learn about their importance for the environment. The hike lasts about 5 hours including breaks.
