Description

Clara was a wonderful pianist who played many concerts and was very famous in her time, even though she was married. That was something special at the time, because women were only allowed to be wives... Robert loved literature and music in equal measure and many of his works were inspired by literary works. The "Carnaval" is a large work with many small pieces. Each piece represents a character (from the Commedia dell'Arte, friends of Schumann, composers, animals...). Alicia Suárez Medina was born in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Andalusia, Spain) in 1997. She began playing the piano at a very early age and received her first piano lessons from Maria Jesús Durán Coiras. She studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música "Manuel Castillo" in Seville with Ana Coello and Carmen Ruiz and was awarded a special prize for the best academic performance. She then continued her studies with Patrín García Barredo at the Conservatorio Superior de Castilla y León. Last year, she completed her master's degree in music pedagogy with Tomasz Herbut at the Bern University of the Arts, where she continues to be supervised by Wilhelm Lachtoumia. In the course of her career, she has attended master classes with renowned international teachers and concert pianists such as Claudio Martínez Mehner, Josu de Solaun, John Milbauer, Rita Wagner and Andras Kemenes. Her interest in chamber music has also taken her to festival academies, including the Aurora Music Festival in Stockholm and the International Mendelssohn Festival in Hamburg. She has been a member of youth orchestras such as the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. Chamber music and piano accompaniment have always played an important role in her career. She worked for a year as a répétiteur at the "Victoria Eugenia" College of Music in Granada (Spain). During her studies in Bern, she specialized in song interpretation and regularly accompanies singers in Malin Hartelius' class at the Bern University of the Arts. She currently combines her artistic activities with her pedagogical work in Switzerland. She has been a piano teacher and accompanist at the Oberemmental Music School since 2023 and regularly performs at concerts and festivals in Switzerland, Spain, Germany and France. Her enthusiasm for both was recently rewarded with the Kiwanis Music Prize 2025. This is an event in the Culture Meets Science event series.
