In the heart of Southeast Asia, halfway between India and China, lies an archipelago that has been shaped for centuries by maritime routes, migrations, economic and cultural relations, and also by the events of the colonial period. From Bali to Timor, reaching the remote Tanimbar Islands in the southern Moluccas, textiles play a central role in the lives of communities, preserving identity, memory, and value systems passed down through generations. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the richness of these textile traditions through around one hundred extraordinary works from the Breguet and Zuellig collections, which the MUSEC has dedicated long-term research to. More than just an exhibition, WOVEN THREADS is a journey through stories, rituals, and transmitted knowledge, where the fabric becomes language, memory, and a living testimony of the communities that created it. The results of this complex research project are summarized in the English-language volume titled WOVEN THREADS. Textile Art from Bali to Timor. The Breguet and Zuellig Collections, edited by Georges Breguet & Paolo Maiullari, which presents a comprehensive selection of the most important masterpieces from both collections (a total of 203 works).
