Description
Frieda, about whom no one has ever told. Of whom no one knows more than that she died in 1941 in an institution for people with disabilities. When Geraldine Oetken learns about her great-aunt, she investigates her story, empathetically and meticulously: She reads medical records, researches the treatment of mental illnesses in National Socialism, decentralized "euthanasia," and hunger murders. Her trail leads her into archives and cemeteries, into Oldenburg during the Nazi era and her youth—and into the depths of her own family history. About her first book and her work against forgetting, the artist and journalist Geraldine Oetken, who lives in Hannover, discusses with Julia Wolrab, who heads the Documentation Center National Socialism.
