That he sings funny songs is the best proof of his sadness – so Georg Kreisler about his title character. From Schaf's memories of his arduous journey out of war emerges a cynical assessment of Germany yesterday and today – while he still does not lose his sense of humor. Like life itself, this theater evening is a true balancing act between downfall and hope, between appeal and eulogy, or as the author himself says: "We all are afraid! But we live! Somehow!" The Berlin singer and actor Dennis Weissert explores in his interpretation of Kreisler's singspiel our current relationship to the post-war period and draws parallels between two realities strongly shaped by existential fears.
