Description

Akram Khan is considered an exceptional talent with a fine sensitivity to the human psyche. For this spectacular choreography, he is working with Gauthier Dance for the first time. "Turning of Bones" is the story of two lovers tragically confronted with the theme of sacrifices and victims. Khan creates an atmosphere in a setting unusually reduced for him, which focuses on dance and pure emotions.

"Turning of Bones" refers to a ritual mainly practiced in Madagascar – Famadihana, where people take the wrapped remains of their ancestors from the graves to reconnect with their ancestors and heritage. They refresh the names on the cloths, carry the bones above their heads, and dance with them. Instead of the elaborate stage sets for which Akram Khan is known, the space here is kept abstract and fully focused on the intensity of the dance. The evening is emotionally carried by Aditya Prakash's original music.
