Hans-Christoph Rademann, Conductor "He is the father, we are the boys," with these words Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart honored Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach as a great role model for himself and his contemporaries. Indeed, in the 18th century, Carl Philipp was the most famous scion of the Bach family, not his father Johann Sebastian. This was largely due to his compositional innovation, which was set to usher in a new era. With his early Magnificat from 1749, he distinguished himself from his father and, with his shimmering violins and reduced harmony, anticipated the elements of Sturm und Drang. Hans-Christoph Rademann compares Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Magnificat with Mozart's incomplete c minor Mass from 1782. At that time, Mozart was deeply engaged with the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Handel's influence is particularly evident in the Gloria, which closely resembles the "Hallelujah" from Messiah. The aria "Et incarnatus est," which is now regarded as an expression of love for Constanze Mozart, for whom he composed the soprano part of the Mass, is of enchanting beauty. It is all the more regrettable that the c minor Mass was probably never performed during Constanze's lifetime. Additional information:
