Pablo Heras-Casado, conductor In the first half of the 19th century, all over Europe, it was said "Viva Rossini!", as he became a box office hit with his captivating and lively operas. However, Gioachino Rossini did not only write operas; he was active in all genres. He left behind over 20 cantatas, including La morte di Didone, which can certainly be considered an "opera in miniature." The fame of the Italian master also reached Vienna, inspiring none other than Franz Schubert to create his Overture in D major "in Italian style," which brings a good portion of Italianità to the Danube with its lightness and temperament. Schubert then took a different path in his "great" Symphony No. 8 in C major. While the D major Overture is characterized by energetic affects, the symphony is marked by great expanse, wide-ranging melodies, and complex developments. All of this makes the symphony a work of epochal magnitude, for which Pablo Heras-Casado is the ideal interpreter with his powerful and precise conducting. Additional information:
