PREMIERE: The story of Shewit, a young woman with a strong personality, shows the life experiences that refugees bring and what resistance and resilience are needed to establish themselves in Switzerland. On Wednesday, October 7, we welcome director Anne-Frédérique Widmann and cinematographer Eliane Ruckstuhl for a film discussion. To escape oppression with painful experiences, Shewit fled Eritrea as a child. After being held captive by human traffickers in Libya, she finally reached Switzerland alone at the age of fifteen – the country she had placed all her hopes in. Seven years later, she still does not have a residence permit; her fate is in the hands of the authorities. But Shewit actively fights with all means for a life in safety. Over a period of ten years, the film director and her cinematographer accompanied the young woman and built a trusting relationship, which is also addressed in the film. How Shewit, who lives in Geneva and speaks perfect French, tries to master the Swiss system while simply living her life with her friends, is shown in this film in a unique way.
