How do people behave when the impossible happens before their eyes? For example, if a successful man suddenly transforms into an insect? Kafka's eerie story from 1912 describes the metamorphosis of traveling salesman Gregor Samsa into a pest. With relentless plausibility, the Prague-based writer, who called Berlin his "place of longing," depicts how the former breadwinner of the family becomes a beetle, increasingly perceived as a burden by his environment. A process of exclusion begins, which ends fatally for Gregor Samsa. Kafka's captivating story raises highly topical themes such as exclusion, social isolation, and rejection of the different. Selected music pieces for cello create a particularly intense atmosphere.
