Description
The exhibition examines the connections between science, art, health, and globalization in early modern Europe (15th-17th centuries), focusing on albarelli, iconic Italian Renaissance apothecary vessels. These ceramics, used for storing ingredients and preparing medicines, are celebrated for their artistic decoration and technological craftsmanship, shaping the image of pharmacies for centuries. The display highlights how these vessels symbolized authority and knowledge among a select group amid rapid pharmaceutical and medical advancements, reflecting ongoing material and technological innovations and networks of raw material and knowledge exchange. This is the first dedicated exhibition linking the museum's majolica collection with current research, including studies of painting and glazing from art, pharmacy, and natural science perspectives.
