A Journey to the Heart of Okinawa The film highlights the dances and music of the Ryūkyū Islands, ancestral traditions passed down from generation to generation. This award-winning documentary bears witness to these precious customs, which are under threat from the passage of time. Following the screening, director Daniel López will share insights into the making of the film and answer your questions. The film runs for 75 minutes and will be screened in Japanese with English subtitles. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Advance registration by email is required, including the names of all attendees: jicc@br. mofa. go. jp About the Director: Daniel López was born and raised in Switzerland with Spanish origins. He has been living in Okinawa since 2003 and is active as a filmmaker, stage director and photographer. In 2016 he directed his first feature-length documentary “Katabui, in the heart of Okinawa” followed by “Rheinbilder, a piece of Germany in Okinawa” in 2020, and “Umui, Guardians of traditions” in 2022.
