Exploration of just intonation through Alain Daniélou's "Semantic System"
A full day at the Musicology Hall of the University of Fribourg, dedicated to exploring just intonation through Alain Daniélou's semantic system. Christian Braut (Alain Daniélou Foundation, co-designer of the Semantic Daniélou-53) and Hélène Derieux (singer, musicologist, IReMus, CNRS/Sorbonne) will lead a three-part program. Hélène completed her doctoral thesis on just intonation under the supervision of musicologist Philippe Lalitte, himself a specialist in the subject. The Semantic Daniélou-36, offered to smem by the Alain Daniélou Foundation, is one of the most unique instruments in our collection: a microtonal keyboard offering 36 intervals per octave, now playable at smem.
