Cycle of conferences at the European Studies Center - Fall semester 2026 Programme Europe faces many major challenges that raise fundamental questions about its political, economic, and legal future. The war of aggression led by Russia against Ukraine has permanently shaken the European security order. It forces states and institutions to redefine their roles between deterrence, solidarity, and maintaining peace. At the same time, Europe's strategic autonomy, the future of European integration, as well as the possibilities and limits of a common foreign and security policy are increasingly central to debates. From a historical perspective, European political orders are the result of long negotiation processes, marked by wars, peace agreements, integration efforts, as well as ideological and religious conflicts. The question "Quo vadis Europa?" thus also invites examination, from a historical perspective, of continuities and ruptures in the relationship to violence, the conception of sovereignty, and the idea of a common Europe. Today, the future of the European project raises fundamental questions: in which direction is European integration evolving? What role do law and institutions play in a changing geopolitical context? What economic and social models can contribute to stability and peace? The European Union must also face internal tensions that will impact its future. Divergences concerning the rule of law, challenges related to migration policies, economic imbalances, relations between religion and politics, as well as different conceptions of European cooperation, shape the political debate. In this context, the "Quo vadis Europe?" conference cycle examines the uncertainties and transformations currently affecting Europe. It aims to analyze major developments from different disciplinary perspectives and to place them within a common analytical framework. The cycle particularly focuses on interactions between war and peace, political order, legal integration, and economic cooperation. It also places these questions within their historical depth and cultural and religious contexts.
