21.8.–3.10.2026 Eva de Souza's artistic-activist practice is based on community-oriented textile experiments and a long-standing engagement with social justice, anti-racism, and feminism. Using the craft techniques of embroidery and sewing, she weaves personal stories with societal events, media impressions with names and slogans. This results in compelling textile imagery. Embroidery also serves as a resistant form of processing experiences such as migration, police violence, and discrimination. Making these themes visible creates opportunities for exchange and empowerment among different communities. With healing textiles, the Stadtgalerie Bern presents the first institutional solo exhibition of the Swiss-Brazilian artist. Translated from Portuguese, the exhibition title means "fabric that heals" or "healing textiles." Its ambiguity refers both to social structures and to the fabrics and cloths that play a central role in Eva de Souza's artistic practice and can have a transformative effect. For the exhibition, the artist transforms the Stadtgalerie into an enveloping installation of textiles and invites visitors to engage in a space of memory, exchange, and care. – Opening
