«What if the wind could move or change borders?» The video «Blowdrers» examines extreme wind events in desert regions. Through various human attempts to manipulate the climate, the project explores the «Myth of a controllable world». It depicts the absurd struggle between humans and weather and suggests that uncertainty and loss of control are central to the way we inhabit the world. Filmed during a stay in the southeastern Moroccan desert in March 2024, the main sequences show a worsening sandstorm, whose intensity is controlled by a meteorologist. The wind exerts destructive and transformative forces on the mineral and biological worlds. On a metaphorical level, it also offers the possibility of a «Re-Worlding». The narrative poses speculative questions such as: «What if the wind could move or change borders?» The title of the work, «Blowdrers», is a wordplay combining «blow» (wind/storm) and «order» (order). Marie-Andrée Pellerin (CA/AT) is an interdisciplinary artist exploring the interplay between geological and societal spheres. Her works employ various media, including video, sound art, installation, performance, and tufting. Speculative thinking is at the core of her practice, where she develops fictional institutions, pseudo-disciplines, and words for new realities. Her recent works address the poetics of weather and investigate how atmospheric phenomena shape social narratives, mental states, and experiences.
