Eschertalk: What Would Tolkien Do? Hope and Responsibility in Times of Change

Description

Eschertalk on the Exhibition Fantastic Maps What can individuals do in times of climate crisis, societal upheaval, and digital overstimulation? Starting from a surprising reference to J. R. R. Tolkien in the recent Pentecost encyclical, Tobias M. Eckrich and Sama Schwarz discuss the question of personal responsibility for the world of today and tomorrow. The focus is on the importance of concrete actions in small steps – and the consideration that a planted tree can sometimes do more than a thousand online posts. The panel discussion invites reflection on hope, engagement, and future responsibility in the 21st century. The conversation is moderated by Lukas Ritzel. Panel participants: Lukas O. Ritzel: Tolkien researcher, author, and curator of several Swiss Tolkien platforms and events Tobias M. Eckrich: Chairman of the German Tolkien Society, podcaster, author, and Tolkien researcher Sama Schwarz: film and theater director, cultural entrepreneur, and co-founder of Maison du Futur Admission is free, registration is requested. The series is funded by the association “Gemeinsam für die Zentralbibliothek” (GFZB). Want to become a member? With a small contribution, you can join. Image: G. Kellers [Heroic Landscape](1842).
