Description
For this second edition of Ensemble Noda, the invitation for professors of HEMU — Valais–Wallis becomes a vibrant tribute to this instrument with a thousand faces. Around Xavier Phillips, the true guiding thread of the evening whose stage presence draws the audience into an electrifying adventure, a variable geometry ensemble unfolds according to a structure conceived as a crescendo, from the soloist to the exceptional gathering of thirteen cellos. The concert opens with a creation by Thomas Demenga, a major figure in the Swiss music scene, who excels both as an internationally renowned cellist and award-winning composer, notably laureate of one of the Swiss Music Prizes in 2025. Through duets, trios, and quartets, Xavier Phillips is joined by his violinist and pianist colleagues from HEMU — Valais–Wallis to traverse styles and eras, revealing in turn the gravity, lyricism, and virtuosity of this repertoire. The highlight of the evening, thirteen cellos perform a festive transcription by Roland Pidoux in a luminous homage to this great musician and conductor. Thus, within the Noda BCVS setting, a soundscape is woven where transmission, complicity, and collective passion celebrate the instrument of kings.
