Description
The Mediterranean region was already characterized in antiquity by the most diverse trade routes: Trade contacts with the Levant and Egypt, as well as between the eastern and western Mediterranean, are documented from the Bronze Age. In the late geometric and early archaic periods, trade extended from Mediterranean products to North and Central Europe. The exhibition displays objects from the Antiquities Collection of the city of Winterthur. The archaeological collection has grown alongside the coin collection and includes, on the one hand, the oldest archaeological finds of the city of Winterthur. Additionally, since the second half of the 19th century, systematic collection of objects from ancient Mediterranean cultures and prehistoric cultures has been ongoing.
