Description
The former editor-in-chief of «Zeit», Roger de Weck, and the managing editor of «F. A. Z.», Reinhard Müller, discuss their new books: «Glanz und Elend der Konservativen» and «Deutsche Dogmen». They debate about bourgeois parties and political errors in the face of authoritarian movements. Liberal-conservatives and Christian Democrats have often distinguished themselves as successful innovators. See social market economy. But can conservatism manage to renew itself? Center-right parties fluctuate between their commitment to an open society and an approach to right-wing authoritarian forces. They often succumb to the temptation to borrow from these populists, who rely on radicalism rather than stability. However, the main opponent of "Mass and Center" is now on the far right instead of the left. Roger de Weck advocates in «Glanz und Elend der Konservativen» for a self-assessment of the right-center. Reinhard Müller, from a conservative perspective, deals with political errors. In «Deutsche Dogmen», he provides a stimulus for thought in 20 bursts – from asylum and nuclear issues to democracy and civil disobedience. His book also invites critical reflection and highlights the dangers when politics is driven by ideology. © Images: F. A.
