Description
The Early Music FLOW Festival Hamburg cordially invites you to its second edition. This festival edition revolves around the music of early baroque Hamburg. It features music by Hamburg's church music director Thomas Selle, who significantly shaped Hamburg's church instrumentation and church music of the 1640s, music by Hieronymus Praetorius, who was organist at St. Jacobi until 1629, as well as other colleagues from the North German Organ School. All performed with an instrumentarium and playing practice that closely resembles the listening experience of that time.
For the spectacular closing concert, polychoral music will be performed in St. Katharinen with the historic organ from the gallery, played in accordance with the performance practice of that era. The proximity to the architecture of the vaults makes this sound particularly vivid and invites you to be carried away by the flow of early baroque music. The 17 specialized musicians sing and play historical instruments: from Viola da Gamba and Baroque violin, to Zink, trombone, and recorder, up to the large church organ, lute, and regal.
Would you like to attend more concerts of the festival? From October 9-16, 2026, the festival will take place at three different locations in Hamburg. In four concerts, families, yogis, all early music enthusiasts, and those who want to become one will get an insight into Hamburg's music from the late 16th to mid-17th century.
