Description
Listening, perceiving – attentive, receptive, without exclamation marks – is a central motif in the works of Dominik Zietlow (*1988). In his films, he explores the interaction between visual and acoustic phenomena. What does sound look like? What happens when the sound is absent? What stories emerge when only a fragment is heard? The environment is perceived among other ways through the sense of hearing: listening means exchange and forms an interface between group and individual. The artist uses performative and documentary approaches to question and shift the boundary between real and fictional worlds. People speak in public spaces with an invisible counterpart, and gradually their conversations weave into a portrait of a place. For the Manor Art Prize, Dominik Zietlow engages with his hometown of Lucerne. The Fasnacht carnival provides the framework to reflect on hearing, not hearing, exclusion, and the individual in the crowd through moving images.
