The Magic Lantern Bern is a film club for children aged 6 to 12. Here they discover – without their parents, but accompanied by responsible adults – the magic of film on the big screen. From September to June, the Magic Lantern shows nine carefully selected films from different countries and eras. The films awaken the joy of storytelling, promote critical thinking, and invite children to immerse themselves in the great emotions of cinema – to laugh, dream, cry, or even be a little scared. About ten days before each screening, members receive a lovingly illustrated club magazine with information about the film. Each screening is preceded by an entertaining and educational staged introduction that brings important aspects of the film closer to the children. Membership for all nine screenings in a season costs only CHF 40.– (CHF 30.– for the second child of the same family and free for all additional children).
