The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen Cold is the world of the Snow Queen, and her heart is cold. One day, she appears as an ice crystal in Kay's window. His heart has also become cold from a shard of the devil's mirror – and so he leaves his home and follows the Snow Queen to her ice castle. Kay's best friend Gerda is sad about the disappearance of her favorite person and embarks on an adventurous search for Kay. Along the way, she encounters numerous beings: a lonely sorceress; flowers that tell fantastic stories; a reindeer; crows working in a princess's castle, and two wise women. They all help her in her search, even the robber girl with the knife. And so Gerda reaches the realm of the Snow Queen and finds Kay: “But he sits very still, cold and stiff. – Then Gerda begins to cry, and her tears fall on his chest. They penetrate into his heart, melt the ice lump, and melt the little mirror shard away.” Swiss director Dominique Enz is a specialist in children's and youth theater. She tells Andersen's fairy tale as a story about the power of love and friendship in cold times and shows that it is not social origin, but compassion that ennobles people.
