Description
Three physicists live in seclusion from the world in a dilapidated villa: Einstein, Newton, and Möbius. The villa belongs to the private sanatorium Les Cerisiers, run by the equally charming and caring Frau Doktor Mathilde von Zahnd. But then, several murders occur within a short period. A criminal inspector begins to investigate, and the disguise of all involved is exposed. "There is no way to keep anything conceivable secret," wrote Dürrenmatt in the 1950s under the impression of the development of the atomic bomb, and subsequently created his physicist Möbius: The discoverer of the potentially destructive world formula hides behind the mask of a mad scientist and thus tries to conceal his invention from humanity. With the 1962 premiere of the crime comedy Die Physiker, Dürrenmatt questions the relationship between research and responsibility. What if science becomes the focus of political interests? If inventions are no longer used for the benefit of humanity but for its destruction? In times of military armament at home and abroad and rapid development of AI, we bring back the staging by Mathias Spaan from the 2023/24 season to the Stadttheater.
