Description
As an exile author in Switzerland, Wagdy El Komy (originally from Egypt) has experienced the complex relationship between forced migration and belonging firsthand. In this English-language event, we will discuss two short stories recently published on Weiter Schreiben Schweiz, a platform for exile authors in Switzerland. Wagdy El Komy's short stories deal with the myth of Noah's Ark and relate it to Western European asylum policies. Through this act of rewriting, El Komy raises questions about topics such as solidarity, ethics, and belonging; the stories reflect a critical mirror to xenophobic discourses, even in Switzerland. The discussion will focus, among other things, on the value of literature and storytelling as a form of resistance. - Location: Zurich James Joyce Foundation, Augustinergasse 9, 8001 Zurich - Time: Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 6:30 PM (in English) - Admission is free.
