"The Abduction" is a plea for courage, tolerance, and forgiveness. Against an exotic backdrop in the tension field of two completely different cultures, Mozart creates a historical utopia: reconciliation. "Nothing is as ugly as revenge!" Against the background of racial and religious conflicts that still cause bloodshed, "The Abduction from the Seraglio" is a highly topical subject. STAGE HISTORY
The world premiere took place on July 16, 1782, at the Vienna Burgtheater and was a great success. Afterwards, the opera soon began its triumphant march through the German theaters: in 1783 performances took place in Prague, Leipzig, and Bonn, as well as in 1784 in Munich, Salzburg, Mannheim, and Frankfurt am Main. At the Weimar premiere on April 4, 1785, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was also present, who commented on the event with the words: "All our efforts to conclude in the simple and limited were lost when Mozart appeared. 'The Abduction from the Seraglio' knocked everything down." Since then, the opera has been indispensable on the stages of the world.
