Description
Even in the womb, Oskar Matzerath recognizes the world as a universal disaster into which he does not want to be born. Only his tin drum offers him an acceptable survival perspective: a life as an artist. So Oskar decides at the age of three not to grow anymore, but to observe and drum. From a frog's perspective, he describes the rise of fascism, linking private history with contemporary history. The novel by the controversial Nobel laureate Günter Grass remains a milestone of German-language literature with its linguistic power, grotesque characters, and scenes that have long entered the collective memory of readers. The questions Oskar must repeatedly find answers to for himself and on behalf of society are: To grow, yes – but how? Where to? How to shape the future? Director Oliver Reese tells the story in a version tailored entirely to the perspective of the main character.
