Des vides à remplir

Description

As is customary during projects of such magnitude, the expansion and renovation of the BCU featured an artistic animation (Kunst am Bau) that 'embodies the cultural responsibility of the state in its public building projects'.
At the end of the selection process, the jury chose the project Des vides à remplir by Neuchâtel artist Denis Roueche. 'The new BCU offers an open view of the cantonal heritage. It is an invitation to share knowledge with a sensitivity to creation,' explains the artist, who describes himself as a conductor. 'My project aims to create a collection of nine blank notebooks as encouragement for writing and reading, and as a tool for taking notes during research at the library and outside its walls. The title Des vides à remplir thus evokes the space to express oneself and create new thinking spaces.'
Denis Roueche invited ten artists to create works that are both visual and textual for the covers of the notebooks (Francis Baudevin, Caroline Bourrit, Hadrien Dussoix, Gilles Furtwängler, Isabelle Krieg, Marinka Limat, Lutz & Guggisberg, Sacha Rappo, and Christian Robert-Tissot). A tenth notebook will feature this historic project through a glossary by Nicole Kate-Roduit and texts by Michal Steinemann and Matthieu Corpataux. Laurence Kubski, on her side, used photographs by Yves Eigenmann and Francesco Ragusa to deliver her reinterpretation in the form of collages.
The notebooks will be distributed free of charge to BCU users starting September 26, while stocks last.
